PIPER DOES NOT LIKE PEOPLE is the first of a picture book series concept about a hedgehog named Piper who doesn’t like people, or presents, or even puppies, and the story of a girl named Penny, who loves Piper. This is a story about unconditional love, even for the most prickly folk.
I wrote this story because I had a hedgehog, and her name was Piper, and she did not like me. I cleaned her cage (that wasn’t an easy job!), gave her food and water, and even took her outside for field trips in the sunshine, but all she ever did was hiss at me and curl into a prickly ball. I still thought she was the most adorable creature, with her pointy little nose and her teensy little feet. Even her fangs were adorable. It was the perfect picture of unconditional love.
