I love sharing stories like Rebeka’s in Her Own Two Feet. That’s what this blog is all about. My stories. Other people’s stories. Writing stories for children. Once upon a time I told the story of our family traveling around the world for nine and a half months. You can find those here at Faces in the Street.

Oh how I love getting letters from kids! When I fi Oh how I love getting letters from kids! When I finish a presentation the last kinyarwanda word I teach is murakoze, which means thank you. I tell the kids it’s one of the most important words you can learn in another language. Saying thank you is important, and they listened because I received so many thank you’s!! When I hear that reading Rebeka’s story “softed a heart” and that a child who never heard about Rwanda is now excited about this beautiful country, wow. Murakoze @altrusarichardson for bringing me to Richardson ISD schools and @laurablatzheim for connecting us!

I love how virtual visits enable me to visit class I love how virtual visits enable me to visit classrooms across the country, and I am so grateful to @candanceproffitt for reaching out to me back in 2019, before Her Own Two Feet was even out, to let me know she was reading it with her class. That message, her encouragement and the enthusiasm of students, has blown me away. I’ve talked with her class every year since, their town did an article about the book, and it’s given me great joy. To all the Mrs. Proffitt’s and all the students who have engaged with Rebeka’s story, we say murakoze (thank you)!
